After being closed to the public for almost 12 weeks, St. Denis is pleased to announce that we have reopened. However, the reopening is happening gradually and in steps in accordance with the guidelines and requirements of the CDC, the State of California, the County of Los Angeles, and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
Our primary concern is for the people of St. Denis—for the health and safety of the priests, staff, parishioners, and visitors. We don’t want them to get sick or be infected with COVID-19.
Therefore, strict social distancing (including face coverings) will be observed; and attendance in the church will be limited to 100 people.
People who have COVID-19, who have been exposed to COVID-19, who live with someone who has COVID-19, or who have one or more symptoms of COVID-19 (such as fever or chills; cough; shortness of breath or difficulty breathing; fatigue; muscle or body aches; headache; new loss of taste or smell; sore throat; congestion or runny nose; nausea or vomiting; diarrhea; etc.)
must stay home and must not come to the church.
Furthermore, people at high-risk for severe illness from COVID-19 are strongly encouraged to stay home and not come to the church. Those at high-risk include:
-
People 65 years and older - People who live in a nursing home or long-term care facility
People of all ages with
underlying medical conditions, particularly if not well controlled, including:
- People with chronic lung disease or moderate to severe asthma
- People who have serious heart conditions
- People who are immunocompromised
- Many conditions can cause a person to be immunocompromised, including cancer treatment, smoking, bone marrow or organ transplantation, immune deficiencies, poorly controlled HIV or AIDS, and prolonged use of corticosteroids and other immune weakening medications
- People with severe obesity (body mass index [BMI] of 40 or higher)
- People with diabetes
- People with chronic kidney disease undergoing dialysis
- People with liver disease
In addition, no one is obliged to attend Mass on Sundays or Holy Days of Obligation because Archbishop José Gomez has indefinitely dispensed everyone in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles from this obligation.
For the foregoing reasons and other reasons, many parishioners who normally attend Mass at St. Denis will not do so at this time. Nevertheless, we encourage you to participate in our livestreamed Masses. We livestream our 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Masses every Sunday and our 8:00 a.m. Mass every weekday (Monday through Saturday). We livestream via our
Facebook page and then upload the video shortly thereafter to our
YouTube channel.
Masses
Our schedule for public Masses is as follows:
Monday through Friday: Mass at 8:00 a.m. (also livestreamed)
Saturday: Masses at 8:00 a.m. (also livestreamed) and 5:30 p.m. (Sunday Vigil)
Sunday: Masses at 7:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. (also livestreamed), 1:30 p.m., and 5:30 p.m. (also livestreamed)
Everyone who attends Mass has to have a valid ticket, sit in his/her assigned seat, wear a face covering, and follow all of the other rules for preventing the spread of COVID-19.
No one can be admitted to the church for Mass without a valid ticket for that Mass. Please do not come to the parish for Mass unless you have a valid ticket. People without valid tickets will not be admitted, and will be asked to return to their homes.
Information about obtaining tickets for Mass and the other requirements for attending Mass are set forth
here.
Confessions:
Monday through Saturday: Confessions in the church and the courtyard after the 8:00 a.m. Mass.
Friday: Confessions in the Hall from 5:00-6:00 p.m.
Saturday: Confessions in the Hall from 3:00-4:30 p.m.
Furthermore, you may call the Pastoral Office (909-861-7106) to schedule confession with a priest at another time.
Additional details about confessions are set forth
here.
Church Hours:
Monday through Saturday, the church opens for the 8:00 a.m. Mass and remains open until 10:30 a.m. for visitors and private prayer. The church is then closed for cleaning and sanitizing.
Monday through Friday, the church is open for visitors and private prayer from 3:00-5:00 p.m., after which it is closed for cleaning and sanitizing.
The Blessed Sacrament Chapel is temporarily closed to visitors because, with its seat cushions, it cannot be properly cleaned multiple times per day.
Eucharistic Exposition and Adoration:
On Friday, the church is open for silent Eucharistic Exposition and Adoration from 8:30-10:30 a.m. (ending with a simple benediction).
The Holy Hour at 8:00 p.m. on Friday is livestreamed only, and is not open to the public, because our custodians cannot clean and sanitize the whole church in time for the 8:00 a.m. Saturday Mass.
